When you want to create an API, you have several options to choose from: RPC, SOAP, REST, GraphQL and many more. RPC and SOAP is "old and dead". That leaves REST and GraphQL.

What's the difference between REST and GraphQL? Why do we use the one and not the other?

We had an existing software with only one frontend - the browser. That has several limitations. We needed to integrate that software with other software, so we had to add an API. So we have rewritten the software and used the "API first" model.

In this case we used GraphQL, but this is not the right tool for every software...
